Tags

Tags are colour-coded labels you attach to individual cards within a deck. They help you organise, filter, and quiz on specific subsets of cards — for example, you might tag cards as “Difficult”, “Review Later”, or “Chapter 3”.

4.1 — Creating Tags

Tags are created inside the New Deck or Edit Deck page. Each deck has its own set of tags — tags from one deck do not appear in another.

  1. Open the New Deck or Edit Deck page (see Creating a New Deck or Editing a Deck).
  2. On the right side of the form, find the Tags panel.
  3. Click the Add New button at the top of the tags panel.
  4. A new tag row appears with empty fields for name, colour, and description.
  5. Fill in the tag details (see section 4.2 below).
  6. Click Save Deck to save the deck along with the new tag.
Tip: You can add as many tags as you need. Each tag row has its own name, colour, and description.

4.2 — Tag Name, Colour, and Description

Each tag has three properties you can set:

Tag Name

Type a short, descriptive name in the tag name text box. For example: “Important”, “Week 1”, or “Grammar”. Tag names can be up to 25 characters long.

Tag Colour

Each tag can have a unique colour to make it easy to spot at a glance.

  1. Click the colour button (the small coloured square next to the tag name).
  2. A colour picker flyout appears showing a colour spectrum.
  3. Select the colour you want by clicking on the spectrum, or adjust the sliders to find a precise shade.
  4. The preview updates in real time so you can see how it will look.
  5. Close the colour picker flyout. Your chosen colour is saved automatically.

Tag Description

Optionally, type a brief description in the description text box. This can help you remember what the tag is for, especially if you have many tags.

4.3 — Removing Tags

You can remove a tag from a deck when you no longer need it. Removing a tag also removes it from every card that had it applied.

  1. Open the Edit Deck page for the deck whose tag you want to remove.
  2. In the Tags panel on the right, find the tag you want to remove.
  3. Click the X button (remove button) on the right side of that tag’s row.
  4. A confirmation dialog appears asking if you are sure. It reminds you that the tag will be removed from all cards that currently have it.
  5. Click Remove to confirm, or Cancel to keep the tag.
  6. Click Save Deck to save the changes.
Warning: Removing a tag is permanent. Any cards that had this tag applied will lose it. You cannot undo this action.

4.4 — Applying Tags to Cards

Once you have created tags for a deck, you can apply them to individual cards. Tags are applied in the Add/Edit Card page using the Tag Picker flyout.

  1. Open a card for editing (see Cards — Add / Edit).
  2. Look for the Tags button on the right side of the card editor. It may show the current tags, or say “Tags” if none are applied yet.
  3. Click the Tags button. A Tag Picker flyout appears showing all the tags available for this deck.
  4. Each tag has a checkbox next to it. Tick the checkbox for every tag you want to apply to this card. Untick any you want to remove.
  5. Close the flyout by clicking outside it or pressing Escape.
  6. Click Save to save the card with the updated tags.

You can also see which tags a card has from the Display View in the metadata panel on the right (see Cards — Display View > Metadata).

Tip: Tags are used throughout MnemoDeck to filter cards. You can filter by tags when searching cards, when starting a quiz, and when moving cards between decks.
